I have always enjoyed your posts and am even disappointed when you are unable to do a proper recap. Your frustrations with Arteta can be a little much at times, but your analysis and things you might point out from the match offer a different perspective than other blogs or videos I might watch.
I would like an analysis of our right wingers. Saka hasn’t been the same since his hamstring injury. He seems to always want to go to his left anymore instead of ever driving to the line.
I like Madueke and I think he has improved his defensive ability, but most of the time it seems like he has no idea where he wants the ball to go when he gets to the line he just hopes to get his foot on it and hoofs into the middle.
Spot on analysis. Top. As I posited in another blog, I wanted the only player out to be Gabi J, but it seems likely that his fellow Brazilian in attack would join him. Again, if Arteta would not let go of stifling his attackers there's no need signing Rogers (he's way better than MGW btw).
We all know how explosive Eze was at CP, but he seems to be less effective here cos we are pragmatic. We could invent a style 5-0-5 when in attack mode to create chaos - similar to PSG's 3-0-6 when pressing.
Lastly, if we're around top 2 of the table come October/November we should be grateful. The players are knackered!! 63 games!!! And most are in for Trump's competition. The probability of having no player in the Semis from our team is next to zero. If PSG's stars played that number of games, the CL final would have been over for the before it started cos there are quite a number of crocks in that team. So we might have a very slow and wobbly start, reason I feel we need at least 5 new players that can slot into the first team (add Nwaneri to that number if you will) and give the others a breather whilst they return fully by November.
On the style - I agree that this choreographed ball progression through the wings is not going to cut it. We need to either come up with the new routines (which might be uneasy given the positional requirements off-the-ball) or as you pointed out, bring a bit of chaos and extensive movement in our attacking line. For that we probably need players that are comfortable in different areas of the attack and someone like Rogers could become handy.
And I am totally with you there is no point of bringing new players if we don't change the foundations.
The weird thing about Rogers is that Eze statistically tops him by most of the parameters, so bringing in Rogers into the same profile and expecting from him give us something new is simply naive. What is very appealing about him though - is that he has goal contributions in high-pressure big games.
