It's a tough question. To be fair, in general I am a bit disappointed.
On one hand he gives the team the highest intensity and his constant movements tire and occupy defenders, which give more space and opportunity to our other attackers. That probably contributed to Trossard having his chances.
On the other hand, it was another PL opponent where the center backs have dominated him. Gyokeres couldn't win the duels, neither using his pace nor using his body power. And it is disappointing, because this and shooting technique is mostly what he can offer.
You can notice by yourself - his best games were against Burnley and Leeds, promoted sides. So whenever quality of opposition is lower, Viktor shines. It's a pity he was unavailable against Sunderland. That said, he might be quite useful against Brugge and Wolves.
It's a valuable contribution as well, but I don't think he's going to help us much in the crunch moments.
I love his pressing and I love that he makes a nuisance of himself. He has definitely had moments where he drags centre backs to him and frees up space for our other attackers. I can’t fault his effort.
I think he needs to get better at dealing with top class defenders. I think we all knew that the standard of defending in Portugal was lower and it may take time, or he may never get to the level?
I hope he can find some form over the next matches, I really want this transfer to work. I watched him at Sporting and he was electric!!
I hope you’re wrong about that, we’re going to need as many players in the big moments as possible!!
Another cracking read! It’ll be interesting to see what the manager does in Bruge. Certainly he needs to know start using the full depth of his squad more. Do you think Berta will be in his ear? I certainly would be after gifting him one of the best and deepest squads in Europe.
Great read! Can I ask, what did you think of Gyokeres’ cameo? He’s got a lot of stick and I’m not sure he deserves it to be honest…

I think so far I would have to agree!

Certainly I have bigger hopes on him than on Madueke now 😉
I’m not sure the ‘flat track bully’ thing quite sticks when one of his best performances came against Newcastle away…
Absolutely right with you on this one. I also like Madueke and think he can also be a real asset

I don’t know what is their hierarchy in the club, but at least I hope that Berta can voice this concern to Josh and the likes.
The only thing is that due to injuries he was forced to use most of the players. Basically except Norgaard and Nwaneri.
