Like I've always insisted, Arteta needs to leave at the end of the season especially if we end up potless. Or our players will start to have doubts and start to leave for glory elsewhere
I can’t say this is fair and balanced reporting. Eze is hardly in the doghouse and Dowman was brought on to ‘win us the game’ against Everton. Surely a more charitable explanation (and one which most balanced commentators have come to) is that there was no point in bringing Max on in a game that was lost (they scored twice in quick succession remember). I’ve kind of indulged your content for balance but I’m now thinking it’s too unbalanced for my likings so I’m out of here.
With regards to Eze - I am referring to December/January period where he was in the doghouse - do you disagree with that? The post is capturing the view on the underlying reasons that caused poor Cup final performance - and having Eze completely benched in the League for a few weeks is a marker for that reason.
With regards to Max - are you fine with your manager giving up on the 60th minute (because the opponent scored twice in succession) and not trying to win the game? For all I know, Dowman could have been brought for 15-20-25 minutes to try and save it.
I would like to see a manager who reacts in the game and wants to win even with 10 or 15 minutes on the clock. Dowman was one of the few players recently that demonstrated confidence and edge to take on the opponents with individual dribbling. His actions won us the game against Everton. We needed that and almost everybody knew neither Jesus nor Martinelli weren't going to do that, because of their recent performance in similar set ups.
I don't know what you define as "balanced reporting", but an argument that says "no point in bringing ..." when the Cup is literally on the line - is just a post factum excuse or a coping mechanism. There is a point in any action that aims at winning that Cup!
Please indulge me in a honest answer - if you would have to take that decision, would you bring on Jesus or Max Dowman? Would you leave Saka on (given the form he has been in recently) or bring in Dowman?
Great post.
